A THREE BEDROOM HOUSE AT UHANE. What if the routine you dream about could start at five every morning? For many years, that was my routine. I lived in Natal and came to São Miguel do Gostoso to set up the development. I worked across the whole commercial side, prospecting and presenting the projects to new clients, but my work went well beyond that. I looked after the experience. I followed clients through their stay, the upkeep of the houses, the finishes, and anything else needed so that every person arriving there felt genuinely looked after. I learned to lay the table so that a client would arrive and feel someone had prepared it for them. I learned to turn down the beds the way five star hotels do, because I believed every guest deserved that comfort. I also learned to look after the memory that scent leaves. Each house had its own smell. The aroma was in the linen, the towels, the curtains, the pillows. Every small detail was thought through. But it was while I was working through all of that that I discovered something more important: I needed to look after myself too. And that is when I created my own dream routine. I would arrive at the development around five in the morning. Here, the sun rises between 5:17 and 5:25. I would park the car and start walking through the development, heading towards the side where the sun comes up. And there is something magical about arriving before it does. Because before the sun appears, the sky is already getting ready. The clouds change colour. One shade appears, then another. The whole sky seems to announce that something great is about to happen. And then, suddenly, it rises. At that moment, I would stop. Breathe. Put my feet in the warm water and stand there, taking the first light of the day. That was my moment to find my own zero point. Then I would carry on walking. On working days I would do about 1.5 km out and 1.5 km back, enough to start the day with energy without tiring myself out. I would go home, shower, and start a full day of work. House by house, following every detail, looking after every experience, making it all happen. And as five in the afternoon came near, I was already planning to watch the sunset. Often I would go over to Tourinhos, hand out leaflets, meet clients, or even go live showing that spectacle that happened every day. And, of course, simply take it in. Give thanks for the day. Afterwards I would often go home, have dinner and, depending on what was on, go back to work. Or go and play beach tennis. And do you know what I think when I remember all of that? I believe that is the dream routine for someone who loves what they do, and who also understands that quality of life, mental health and time to live matter.
